SALARY:  Based on Bulloch County Schools salary/supplement schedule    

 

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

 

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Operations Supervisor or Designee

 

                         

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

A painter works under the direction of the Maintenance Operations Supervisor and is responsible for preparing surfaces to be painted and for the application of paints and stains commonly used to protect, color, or provide texture to surfaces such as walls, doors, door and window frames, furniture, ceilings, panels, and other surfaces.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma/GED. 
  • Valid Driver License.
  • At least three years of experience as a painter.
  • Knowledge of common practices used to provide work site protection during painting projects.
  • Knowledge of proper surface preparation to ensure proper adhesion of paints and/or stains.
  • Knowledge of different types of paints and their appropriate applications.
  • Knowledge of paint matching and mixing.
  • Ability to properly apply paints and stains using a variety of application devices including brushes, rollers, sponges, and spray equipment.
  • Ability to use a variety of handheld and power tools, ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts.
  • Basic computer skills, including internet browsing, emails, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Ability to read and interpret paint specifications, including preparation and application directions and requirements.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to perform manual labor both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to interpret demands and organize responses in a fast paced and ever changing work environment.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:

  • Evidence of completion of a training program or technical course that focuses on professional painting.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Prepares work area to protect carpet, furniture, and other objects during painting projects.
  • Repairs surface defects and prepares surfaces for painting or staining.
  • Color matches or mixes paints and stains.
  • Selects types of paints after close assessment and evaluation of site conditions to ensure proper type of paints are applied to surfaces.
  • Applies paints and stains using a variety of application devices including brushes, rollers, sponges, and spray equipment.
  • Utilizes a variety of handheld and power tools, ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts during painting activities.
  • Reads and interprets paint specifications, including preparation and application directions and requirements.
  • Cleans surfaces and buildings utilizing softwash or power wash machines.
  • Maintains a neat and safe work area.
  • Receives, completes, and updates work orders utilizing a work order management system.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

  • Attendance and Dependability:  Ability to report to work at the scheduled time and to seldom be absent from work.  Demonstrate prompt and regular work attendance.  Process appropriate paperwork to authorize absences in accordance with school system procedures.  Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate manner and to be conscientious about work performance.

 

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designated supervisor in accordance with Policy GBI - Evaluation of Personnel.
