School Nurse (LPN)

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will be responsible for assessing and addressing health needs of students and staff when necessary. The school nurse participates in development of system and school level plans for health services and other areas as needed. This position serves as the resource for health information and as a referral agent for healthcare in the community.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two year nursing degree from an accredited technical school, college or university.
- Must hold at least a Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license in the state of Georgia.
- Must hold a current certification in CPR.
- At least one year of successful experience in nursing.
- Works directly with school based RN and/or classroom teacher.
- Experience working with a diverse group of people.

- Must be able to provide a criminal background check with results that adhere to Bulloch County Board of Education Policy GAK(1).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Nursing experience in public health, school health, home health and/or pediatrics.
- American Heart Association Heartsaver Instructor certification/licensure.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts general clinic and medication administration according to established policy and procedure.
- Evaluates student complaints and injuries and contacts parents as needed.
- Conducts screening/testing as needed; including lice, hearing, vision, dental health, etc.
- Produces required reports and records as needed/requested.
- Assists with hospital/homebound program.
- Assists with health instruction as needed.
- Processes and submits required paperwork, reports, records and statistics according to daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly guidelines.
- Maintains and cleans clinic area including refrigerator and medication cart.
- Annually conducts Universal Precautions Education for faculty/staff.
- Produces annual Health Alert list.
- Processes and submits paperwork/forms for Medicaid Med Administration billing.
- Collaborates with school personnel and families in the Student Support Team and 504 processes.
- Performs other duties as requested.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designated supervisor in accordance with Policy GBI - Evaluation of Personnel.
